One Leadership Team

08.07.25 | Announcements

Watch this video for an explanation from Dr. Don of why we're proposing a move to one leadership team.

The one leadership team model offers a team approach to leadership, bringing key decision makers around one table to ensure that the church achieves its mission.  With this change we would move from having separate teams (Staff Parish Relations, Trustees, Finance, Church Council) to a single team that both manages resources and supports strategic objectives while fostering spiritual growth. This leadership model allows for:

    • Effective Processes – facilitate communication and innovation
    • Efficient Decision Making – enables rapid response to church needs
    • Unified Vision - aligns varied functions around shared mission and strategy
    • Sustainable Use of Talent - reduces burnout and expands ministry potential

Under our current leadership model certain decisions and discussions have to go through multiple teams and meetings which slows down the decision making process and leads to repetitive conversations and tasks. With the one leadership team model, all the team members are present and decisions can be made more efficiently.

Team members will serve three year terms. The nominations team will continue to be a separate team that will nominate those who serve on the leadership team.

Having one leadership team still adheres to the The Book of Discipline, which permits alternative church governance structures.  The spirit of Book of Discipline paragraph 243 allows for creative options that honor the context and needs of the local church as long as adequate provision is made for the following basic responsibilities:

    • Nurture, outreach, and witness
    • Effective pastoral and lay leadership
    • Financial support, physical facilities, and legal obligation
    • Connection to the district and annual conference
    • Documentary record keeping
    • Inclusivity in all aspects of church life

We will have a vote about moving to this new leadership model at the Church Conference on Sunday, October 26 at 2 PM. If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to email Pastor Don or give us a call at 727-584-8165.
